GREAT COMMERCIAL TRADE UNDERPINS TOP PRICES AT FOCUS MILK SALE- 3300 GNS CHATERLEY HEIFER TOPS SALE

The Western Holstein Club’s Monthly Focus Milk Sale at Beeston Castle Auction met with a resounding trade for all lots on offer and a total clearance was effected.

Judge for the day was Peter Mercer of the Sandringham Herd who selected Winton Spearmint Marly, a daughter of Pine Tree Spearmint from Peter Waring of Beverley as his Champion. In reserve was Bidlea KPI Lora from Ray Brown and Partners of Holmes Chapel for their daughter of Knowlesmere Papoose Integrity.

Trade was tremendous from start to finish with lots of bidding for many buyers throughout the sale and as a result trade saw a sharp rise in prices in comparison with the last Focus Milk sale four weeks ago and also considerably more than other sales that have happened since then.

Top price was 3300 gns for the superbly bred Chaterley Graceland Debra ET, a massive but very well proportioned daughter of the Goldwyn, son Graceland bred from 7 generations of straight Excellent dams from the Debra family tracing back to Fleetridge.

She was sold giving 31 kg and was the choice of Rob Ward for his Wayring Herd at Whitchurch.

Two animals made 2700 gns each; the first was the second prize cow, Actonfarm Matson Beatexus 2nd (VG85) from HJ Tomlinson and Partners, Acton, Nantwich whose 8 nearest dams are all classified Excellent. She was sold giving 45 kg. having calved just over 4 weeks, she sold to the judge. Also at this price was Twinfields Bonair Willis consigned by Cameron Baty; this daughter of Karona Bonair was sold giving 36 kg and was snapped up by Brian Parker of Haughton, Stafford who also purchased a lovely Shottle heifer from CJ Gurney & Son of Thame for 2650 gns.

Harri Evans of Ty Croes, Anglesey buying for his Ceinwen Herd purchased a Sicy Knowledge daughter from Bixley Farms, Norfolk for 2550 gns and a daughter of April Day Wisconsin Red bred from 9 generations of VG/EX dams from Neil Jones, Whitchurch for 2500 gns. Also at this price was Enchanted Parker Ruby, by Knowlesmere Parker, again with eight generations of dams in the top two grades, consigned by Enchanted Holsteins of Preston and selling to the Gatrog Herd of Elwyn Thomas at Kidwelly, West Wales. A further 9 animals made from 2200 to 2450 gns.

At the end of the sale there were four lovely 13/14 month old heifers from the Actonfarm Herd which sold up to 2000 gns for an Askew Reece daughter bred from 10 generations of VG/EX dams of the Conant Acres Sweet family.
