MASSIVE MID MONTH SEES 100% CLEARANCE FOR 352 FRESH CALVED DAIRY CATTLE AT BEESTON HEIFERS TO £2750 – COWS TO £2600

The Famous Wright Manley Mid Month Sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle at Beeston Castle

Auction attracted a record entry of 364 dairy cattle at its November Sale as well as substantial entries of In calf and Maiden Heifers and Heifer Calves and half a dozen beef stock bulls. A huge crowd was present with cattle distributed from South West Scotland to West Wales.

FRESH CALVED COWS AND HEIFERS:

The huge catalogued entry of 364 Head was a record for this sale proving its popularity amongst vendors from all over the UK. On the day 352 were forward and a total clearance was effected which is quite remarkable for such a huge number. The team of auctioneers opened the sale up with the bulls and the hammer was knocked down on the last milker at 4.30 pm. Trade was tremendous considering the number; we don’t think we have ever seen the cows as dear and the heifers were very similar to last month if not a little sharper. Over 90 buyers were recorded and 86 animals sold for £2000 or more

Top price once again to went to an entry from the Burnbrae Herd of Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle,

Shrewsbury with their Shottle daughter Starward Shottle Peonie, a fresh heifer, which was sold giving 32 kg to an undisclosed West Wales buyer. Not far behind from the same home was a lovely red heifer, Burnbrae Twister Chris Red, by HS Twister, sold giving 34 kg. to another West Wales buyer, Windsor Thomas of Carmarthen for £2650. They also had a very well bred Vaakje heifer with 9 generations of VG/EX dams behind it by Willow-Marsh CC Gabor selling for £2350 to D & HE Colclough & Sons of Hassall, Sandbach and a cracking purebred Brown Swiss heifer by Red Brae Prelude Zeus which sold for £2300 to Rob McColm of Stranraer.

Three heifers made £2450 each; the first was Flintstone Sam Cloe 2nd from RA & S Arnott of Kings Langley, Hertforshire selling to Richard Williams of Wrinehill, Crewe who also purchased Holbeck Jeeves Primrose 264th from EV & B Boughey & Son of Tarporley at the same figure. Also at £2450 was Worthingtons Lorna 210th by a homebred bull, from S E & J Collier of Wigan which sold to Anthony Matthews of Whitchurch who also acquired Burlane Captain Trixie from Simon and Clare Powell of Shrewsbury for £2400.

The trade for cows was incredible and perhaps not ever been as expensive. The top price in this section

went again went to the Taylor’s with their Bixleypark Dewdrop 26th, a second calver by Regancrest Dolman giving 48 kg selling to the Colclough’s for £2600. They also sold Stapleford Scooby Duu Nessina, another second calver giving 52 kg daily for £2500 to John Bayley, Nuneaton who also had a homebred second calf Damion from the same home at £2400. The Scarisbrick family of Galastar Holsteins, of Goostrey, Holmes Chapel also had a great day topping their consignment of cows at £2450 for a Gillette Carlton second calver and £2400 for a Drake both going to West Wales to two different purchasers.

Coloured breed animals topped at £2300 for the Brown Swiss that has already been mentioned but a very smart Swedish Red cross Montbeliarde heifer from BW & J Robinson & Son of Kirkham, Preston sold for £1900 and a Shorthorn heifer from OC Whittaker & Son of Knutsford selling for £1750. Rob Morgan’s third calf Brown Swiss cows sold up to £1600. Jersey crosses sold to £1180.

IN-CALF HEIFERS:

A much smaller entry of in-calf heifers, most of which were lying off into the New Year sold on a decent but not startling trade. Top price was £1550 for an unregistered heifer B & C Lampard of Nuneaton with another selling at £1400. A pedigree heifer by Rossett Golden Boy from SJL Roberts, Telford sold for £1480 and a Lavanguard heifer from F Pass & Sons, Nantwich sold for £1460. Lying off heifers were generally in the £1250 to £1300 region.

MAIDEN HEIFERS:

Again a seasonal small entry with the major being ES Cole & Sons of Norfolk consigning a lovely group of maidens from their Winfarthing Herd which sold up to £1000 for an 11 month old daughter of Goldfish.

HEIFER CALVES:

A good entry of 35 heifer calves sold well particularly for the best and reached £500 twice for  September born calves by Cervie Allemar and Golden Oaks Alexander, both consigned by Tollemache Farms of Peckforton, Tarporley.

BULLS:

There were 6 beef bulls entered of which 5 found new homes. They sold to £2300 for an 18 month
