Rosina heifer leads Ernevale youngstock offering at 2,500gns

A potential fourth generation Excellent Rosina by Comestar Lavanguard attracted a bid of 2,500gns, topping Seamus Gunn’s Ernevale ‘Next Chapter’ Youngstock sale, held at the Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira.

Sale leader was the June 2012 born Ernevale Lavanguard Rosina (PLI £130) which caught the eye of pedigree breeders Tommy and Mark Henry, from the Mostragee Herd based at Stranocum, County Antrim.

Her dam is the Picston Shottle daughter Ernevale PS Rosina, who averaged over 9,429kgs at 3.39% butterfat and 3.07% protein in four 305-day lactations. This stylish heifer scooped the breed’s junior championships at Armagh and Omagh shows earlier this year.

Another show winner Ernevale Destry Lulu Red (PLI £102) sold at 2,400gns to Steven Robinson’s Cluntagh Herd, Crossgar, County Down. Sired by the Braedale Goldwyn son Scientific Destry, she boasts a deep pedigree and is backed by nine generations of VG and EX dams going back to the world-famous Hanoverhill Lulu family. This true red heifer was interbreed maiden dairy heifer champion at Clogher Valley Show, and junior champion at Enniskillen Show.

Next best at 1,920gns was Ernevale Alta Rosina ET (PLI £115). Sired by the Regancrest Elton Durham son MD Delight Durham Atlas VG86, she was bred from the Pursuit September Storm daughter, Ernevale FS Rosina EX93 3E – a first prize winner at the 2007 RUAS Winter Fair. This heifer was the 2011 Teemore Babe of the Year at Enniskillen Show. Buyer was Anne Simpson from Dungannon, County Tyrone.

The February 2011 born Ernevale Attic Holiday (PLI £61) came under the hammer of auctioneer Michael Taaffe at 1,850gns, selling to Edgar and Jason Pollock’s Garrick Herd, Portadown, County Armagh. This springing heifer was sired by the Braedale Goldwyn son Allyndale I-Attic ET, and is bred from the EX92-3E Ernevale Geno Holiday.

Following close behind at 1,820gns was the Gillette Jordan ET daughter Ernevale Jordan Rosina. She was bred from the EX classified Picston Shottle daughter Ernevale PS Rosina, who averaged over 9,429kgs at 3.39% butterfat and 3.07% protein in four lactations. In-calf to MS Atlees SHT Aftershock, this potential fourth generation EX heifer joins Gaston and John Wallace’s Printshop Herd at Nutt’s Corner, County Antrim.

Maiden heifers peaked at 1,800gns, realised by the ten-month-old Ernevale Stanleycup Rosina (PLI £86). Sired by the Sandyvalley Bolton son Gillette Stanleycup ET, she is bred from the Braedale Goldwyn daughter Ernevale Gold Rosina VG89. This heifer won her class at Enniskillen Show, and was snapped up by Alan Neill from Brackagh, Portadown, County Armagh.

Seamus Gunn from Derrylin, County Fermanagh, expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who supported the Ernevale Sale. “Thanks to the various companies who advertised in the catalogue, and to everyone who contributed to the success of the sale. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all buyers the best of luck with their purchases.”
