BORDERWAY BLACK AND WHITE SALE

The legendary Black and White Sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle once again asserted its importance in the world of top Holstein breeding. The result – a ninety percent sell out to average nearly £4000, with a top of 10,200gns and twelve heifers over 5000gns. On top of this immensely satisfying sale were buyers from all over the UK and Ireland as well as France, Holland and Germany.

The leading bid of 10,200gns secured for Andrew and Alison Bunting of Newabbey herd near Dumfries a stunning, superbly, well bred 8 month old heifer calf sired by Regancrest S Braxton and from the currently red hot Canadian “Missy” cow family. The dam, Morsan Miss Universe VG88 (2yr) is by G St Alexander and the grand dam Eastside Lewisdale Gold Missy EX95 was supreme Grand Champion World Dairy Expo and Royal Winter Fair 2011 in North America.

Three young heifers made 8000gns each. Feizor Windbrook J Flo 2, a daughter of Messrs Booths VG88 (2yr) Gillette Jordan heifer is from the irrepressible Flo family; probably UK’s hottest female line, the grand dam being by Shottle and the third dam Holmland Storm Flo EX94 herself. The winning bid of 8000gns came from local noted breeders Messrs Hodgson of “Wormanby”.

At the same price was “Utopian Meridian G Ambrosia” a March born heifer calf from Northern Irish breeder Mr N Pepper of Dromore, who bought the dam Sahara Goldwyn Ambrosia 4 VG89 three years ago from Wales. This calf now joins the top quality “Designer” herd from Essex.

The other 8000gns calf was a “Numero Uno” May 2013 calf from the top notch “Wiltor” herd of Claire Jones & Family, who often feature in the head lines of leading events. Out of the USA heifer Court-Us-Ms Dom Candice, with 11 VG and EX dams this heifer sported the highest GTP Index in the sale with a figure of +2389. This heifer was successfully bought by Drakkar Holsteins of France.

Auctioneer Glyn Lucas who shared the rostrum with Andrew Templeton and pedigree reader Graham Kirby was naturally delighted with the sale. “It was such a satisfying, straight forward sale; typical of what we expect of the Black and White”. He said “vendors with very sensible and modest reserves, keen bidding from buyers who have confidence in the integrity of the sale, what more could an auctioneer ask for.” “Another great event.” concluded Mr Lucas.
