BEST CATTLE ON FIRE AT BEESTON MID MONTH HEIFERS TO £2950 – COWS TO £2600

The Final Mid Month Sale of the year attracted an entry 325 dairy cattle in total of which 314 were forward on the day. There were 248 milking cattle forward with rest being in-calf and maiden heifers, heifer calves and stock bulls.

MILKING CATTLE

Trade was exceptional for the very best animals on offer this month but as a proportion of the sale there were not so many of them about particularly in the cows. However the trade for the middle range, of which there were plenty, was decidedly less being down a good £100 per head on the month.

The top two prices this month went to entries from Simon and Clare Powell of Burlton, Shrewsbury; their market topper was the pedigree heifer Bixleypark Amanda 67th, a fresh calved heifer by Seaver sold giving 30 kg. Just eight days calved. She sold for £2950 to a regular West Wales client. The second best seller was their homebred Burlane Jeeves Catriona, by Jeeves out of an Excellent classified Deehaven dam. She sold giving 34 kg for £2800 to D & H E Colclough & Son of Hassall, Sandbach. The Powell’s also sold a homebred Woodmarsh Topshot daughter at £2500 to Richard Williams, Wrinehill, Crewe.

Next at £2750 was Starward Sam Betsy consigned by Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury for a Mr.Sam heifer giving 32kg and selling to West Wales who also sold a home bred daughter of Durham Ross at £2600 to JG Williams Nantwich, a Garrison daughter at £2500 to the Colclough’s and a Shottle daughter for the same money to Richard Williams.

Two further animals sold for £2600; the first of these was Preepark Ross Janet from Huw Roberts, Cefn-y-Bedd, Wrexham selling to Richard Williams whilst the other was Moordown Ross Annette by Bosside Altaross from Showell Partners of Nuneaton which sold to George Bonsall of Eccleshall. An unregistered heifer by Askew Reece from AL Moore and Partners of Byley, Middlewich sold for £2500 to Anthony Matthews, Whitchurch.

Peter Waring travelled from Beverley, East Yorkshire and was rewarded with £2450 for his Yedmandale Loader June which sold to the Colclough’s who also purchased a Gerard daughter from the Taylor’s at the same money. The largest consignor of milkers this month was Neil Lewis of Farndon who sold 17 super heifers to a top of £2420 which sold to Rob Ford of Nantwich.

Cows too were good for the best and the top seller came from the Taylor’s for a second calf daughter of Palmcrest Blitz Blade selling at £2600 to the Colclough’s who also purchased three other second calvers from the same home at £2120 and £2100 twice. The Downing Partnership of Edenbridge, Kent sold a second calf Mr. Sam at £2200 and the George Dutton of Knutsford sold another second calver at £2100.

There were not many coloured bred animals on show but those that were entered were either Dairy Shorthorns or Jerseys. They were led by two bids at £1820 both for Shorthorns; the first of these was a third calver from David Dent of Kirby Stephen, Cumbria who also sold a heifer at £1750 whilst the other £1820 bid was for a very smart heifer from OC Whittaker & Sons of Knutsford. Jersey cross  Holstein heifers sold to £1500 for an entry from Howard Walmsley of Garstang, Lancashire.

IN CALF HEIFERS and MAIDEN HEIFERS

HEIFER CALVES
