Annual January Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre. No less than 32
freshly calved cows and heifers sold for in excess of 2000gns to top at 2650gns
for the calved heifer ‘Lilylane Buster Roma’ out of 4 generations of VG or Ex
dams from AJ Bennett & Sons. DC Dennis & Son from Ivybridge entered a
not so unlucky 13 cows and heifers from their ‘Dinnaton’ herd to average an
impressive £2344 topping at 2500gns twice for members of the homebred
‘Bluebell’ and ‘Trilby’ families both of which had calved to their first in
December. The calved heifer ‘Moorshard Shottle Marty’ from Randolf and Brian
Miller sold for 2450gns.
Freshly
calved cows sold to 2300gns on three occasions for FH Chave & Sons second
calver ‘Peacehay Fluff 93rd’, DC Dennis’s second calver ‘Dinnaton Mtoto Sam
Angela GP84’ and DJ & V Norman’s ‘Ciderhouse Bolton Nora GP82’.
Organic
incalf heifers from first time consigners Messrs Daniell & Hole sold to
1940gns for ‘Ganbrook Azure Daphne 203rd’ with a PLI of £104 she was due in
February to the Hereford. Heifers due to calve at under 2 years of age from MJ
& YL Burrows of Cullompton selling to 1650gns for ‘Riverwood Ross
Coronation 2nd’.
Crossbred
2 month served heifers from Butler Farms of Sussex sold to 1100gns for 2 year
old British Friesian heifers due to the crossbred bull.
68%
of the milking and incalf heifer portion of the sale went North of Bristol or
across the Severn bridge to Wales. A successful day with the very best in
strong demand reflecting the current confidence in the dairy industry generated
