BOWBERHILL GO TOP WITH A SWEET MELODY

On Wednesday 12^th March the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club hosted their monthly Pedigree Dairy Day Sale at Borderway, Carlisle.  The catalogue was full of top quality pedigrees many with six or more generations of Excellent or Very Good dams and more importantly cows and heifers that justified their heritage.  It was certainly a buyer’s market with a number of superior animals selling well below their true value and with the beautiful spring weather caressing the countryside some buyers were busy in the fields. 

The show was sponsored by Paragon Veterinary Group and Cogent and professionally judged by Mr Andrew Wilson from the Northshields herd in Fife.  The overall Champion went to Bowberhill Bluesky Melody consigned by WM Hutchinson & Son, Redgate Farm, Kirkby Stephen.  She was sired by Galastar Bluesky and traced back to the famous Gail family from Startmore.  She sold for the top price of the day purchased by Doug Reynolds for an undisclosed buyer in Yorkshire for 2,300gns.  

The Reserve Champion went to Boclair BG Gypsy consigned by J Brewster, Boclair Farm, Glasgow.  She was sired by Boclair Goldwyn and bred from two Excellent dams, she sold for 2,200gns and now joins the herd of JT & EM Marrs & Son, Broomhills, Carlisle.

The second highest price of the day went to a special Red & White heifer consigned by R. Steel & Son, Kepculloch Farm, Glasgow.  Kepculloch Classic August Red was sired by Poos Stadel Classic and bred from the world renowned August cow family.  She sold for 2,250gns and was purchased by J Taylor, High Whinnow Farm, Carlisle.
