Lady Day Collective

The Annual Lady Day Collective Sale held by Auctioneer’s Greenslade Taylor Hunt at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 18th March produced a selective trade with stronger well grown types commanding a premium over the smaller heifers and poorer cows.

FH Chave & Son’s three year old calved heifer ‘Peacehay Blue Iris 152nd’ by ‘Hartline Titanic’ topped the day at 2320gns. She was closely followed by AJ Bennetts & Sons ‘Lilylane Buster Kelly 87th’ by the homebred bull and out of 6 generations of VG or Ex dams, she sold for 2300gns. The Dinnaton bred heifers for DC Dennis & Son were in demand again selling to 2250gns for the ‘Out Iota Odette’ by ‘Regancrest Altaiota’ she had calved at two years three months. Other heifers to break the 2000gn barrier were ‘Dorset Belle Lapwing’ from Dorset Farming Ltd and ‘Lilylane Gambler Monogram 29th’ consigned by Nick Goss.

Best cows were in considerable demand selling to 2250gns for ‘Rookhaye Burt Martha VG85’ a second calved ‘Burt’ daughter out of an Ex90 dam consigned by Rookhaye Estate who also sold ‘Rookhaye Samuelo Kelly VG85’ for 2000gns. At 2100gns was another from the Chave’s being the second calver ‘Peacehay Blue Iris 146th GP82’, and at 2000gns was the third calver ‘Dinnaton Sept Oxford Dreamer GP83’ from the Dennis’s. The second calved Jersey Cow ‘IJB Regans Mystery’ from Messrs Richard & Webber sold for 1420gns.

PR & SA Manley’s organic Primehill dispersal sold second calved cows to 1850gns for ‘Primehill Regina GP82’

Non-recorded British Friesian calved heifers from HG Tincknell Ltd sold to 1500gns.

Dutch bred incalf heifers from Witcombe Farm Partners due April - June sold to 1520gns, and commercial British Friesian bulling heifers form C & EC Mills sold to 730gns.

First time consigners SJ Stevens & Son sold their March 2012 ‘Baxter’ bred bull out of a VG88 cow bred from Moorshard to 1550gns. Younger bulls to 1400gns for a ‘Bossman’ son from CRJ & JA Bishop of the Curscombe herd.
