Wormanby Judy Is Crowned Champion


There was a quality entry of freshly calved cows and heifers at Borderway for the April Border & Lakeland Holstein Club show and sale.  The sale averaged £2016.40 and topped 2,550gns, in general the trade was slightly back with a number of buyers missing due the beautiful sunny spring weather. 

The event was sponsored by Zoetis and Cogent and expertly judged by Phil Manning from the Etsill herd in Shropshire.   His Overall Champion went to Wormanby Gambler Judy consigned by H, M&D Hodgson, Wormanby Farm, Carlisle.  She was bred from their top Judy family and sired by Willsbro Gambler she sold for 2,400gns to SJ & JE Ogden of Pears Ghyll Farm, Calthwaite.  The Reserve Champion was Snow Lady 82 consigned by G&M Wilson & Sons, Lowfield Farm, Appleby.  She was sired by Denmire Lance and sold for the top price of the day 2,550gns to N & SJ Sanderson of Burtholme Farm, Brampton.


Other top prices included Wormanby Jordan Jennifer sired by Gillette Jordan, she was bred from two Excellent dams and sold for 2,500gns to DR & HM Horsley Ltd of Woodhouse, Penrith.


The day also included the Spring Red & White sale.  Topping the trade in this section was a very milky heifer consigned by Muirside Farm, Holywood, Dumfries.  Muirside Kathy 5 was sired by West Port Bookman Red was giving 38kgs and sold for 2,350gns to I & ME Askew of Raw Head Farm, Kendal.


The Spring Jersey Sale had a number of well bred animals selling, topping at 2,100gns for Clydevalley  Rocket Flora consigned by the Hunter family. She was a Very Good 86 heifer due again with her second calf in October. She now joins the herd of JR Heuchan & Son of Gerranton Farm, Castle Douglas.


Marion & David Holiday, Demesne Cottage, Burgh By Sands, Carlisle sold four very classy heifer calves.  Monument Governor Winsome was a September born Griffens Governor heifer bred from three generations of Excellent or Very Good dams.  She was the Overall Champion and sold for 1,250gns to JR Heuchan & Son of Gerranton Farm, Castle Douglas.
