 QUALITY TELLS THE STORY!

TOP OF £2650 TWICE AT BEESTON MID MONTH

The Famous Wright Manley Mid Month Sale of Pedigree and Commercial Dairy Cattle attracted an entry of 280 head for its June sale. Trade was very good in all sections and only one animal failed to find a new home.

MILKING CATTLE:

On the day 156 milking cattle were forward including entries from the Western Holstein Club’s under the Focus Milk banner. Quality again was tremendous and there is no doubt there is a big demand for quality with Beeston having a reputation for supplying quality cattle to the fresh milk market. The top price was £2650 which was achieved twice with a total of 52 cattle making £2000 or more including 9 animals at £2400 and above. The ring was full of buyers from all over and it was particularly noticeable how many Staffordshire and Derbyshire buyers were present obviously attracted by the great quality on offer.

The first of the top sellers was a fantastic unregistered heifer from local vendor Peter Bostock of Ridley who has just recently ceased milk production whilst the other was a homebred pedigree heifer, Tarporley Rudolph Mercy, by Clayden Rudolph from EV & B Boughey & Son of Tarporley. Both went to the same undisclosed West Wales purchaser.

Next at £2500 was the leading heifer from the Burnbrae stable of Jack and Barclay Taylor of Middle, Shrewsbury. This was for Westeric Anna 129th, a daughter of McCormick out of a 10000 kg dam. She sold to David Guy of Kinderton, Middlewich who also secured daughters of Million and Burlane Roller Coaster from the same home at £2400 each. Another Shrewsbury vendor, Simon and Claire Powell of Burlton was next in the price list selling Wintersell Twist Anna, a daughter of Cogent Twist for £2450 to JL & EM Parker & Son of Haughton Stafford. At the same time Howard Walmsley of Garstang sold a homebread daughter of Domicole Simms for £2450 to Spotacre Farms of Stone and this same figure was achieved for another Clayden Rudolph daughter from the Boughey’s which sold to RH & S Mottershead of Tybroughton, Whitchurch. The Boughey’s had a great day selling a daughter of Cogent Loader at £2400 to Mrs MJ Winward & Son of Tarvin.

Cows were also in keen demand and sold up to £2200 on three occasions. The first was a fresh second calver, Bannistree Cherry 158th(VG85) from David Monk of Ormskirk which sold to H Sinker & Sons of Warrington whilst the other two were under the Focus Milk banner and were consigned by Ivan Shepherd of Great Budworth for a second calf Shottle daughter which went to West Wales and then a second calf Matson daughter from Graham Dimelow of Malpas which sold to Spotacre Farms. Other cows that broke the £2k mark were a second calf of Ca-Lil Marlin from HH Corbett & Son of Banbury which sold for £2050 to Spotacre Farms and a second calf Shottle from Ivan Shepherd which sold to Kevin Peacock of Calveley.

Coloured breed entries topped at £2250 for a Brown Swiss cross heifer from Jack and Barclay Taylor; British Friesians sold up to £1950 for a second calver from P E Bailey & Sons of Oswestry; Jersey Cross heifers sold up to £1620 from OC Whittaker, Knutsford; Norwegian Red crosses up to £1500 from AJ Thompson, Kent whilst Shorthorns were up to £1450.

IN-CALF HEIFERS:

Not a big entry numerically but very good on quality. The top seller was the July calving Longfont Baroque Willow from Giles Dodd of Dodleston which sold for £1880 who had another six heifers in in his consignment of twelve selling from £1700 to £1780.

MAIDEN HEIFERS:

Again not many about but they sold on a great trade. Top seller was Heathleigh Mammoth Present and August 12 bulling heifer from LF Horton & Son of Little Leigh which sold for £1180 with an unregistered daughter of Gillette Jordan from the same home made £1050. A nice group of Ayrshire yearling heifers from EH Arden & Son of Broughton sold to £920 for a daughter of Green Lane World Leader. However the largest entry of this section were a group of Jersey crosses which sold up to £580.00.

HEIFER CALVES:

A larger entry of 30 heifer calves met with a good trade and topped at £350 twice for entries from David Drinkall of Darnhall with others at £300 from Mike Cliffe, Nantwich. Ayrshire heifer calves sold to £210 and grazing types sold up to £190.

STOCK BULL:

Only one forward and this was for a nice Hereford ideal for heifers which made £1200.
