RUBY SISTERS SHINE IN JUNE
The June Border & Lakeland dairy sale at
Borderway, Carlisle had another quality offering of fresh cows and heifers on
show. The trade remained similar on the
month with an overall average of £1935, it remains a buyer’s market with very
milky animals looking good value for money.
The event was sponsored by Zoetis and Cogent and
expertly judged by Alistair Logan from Holehouse Farm near Kilbirnie, Ayrshire. He selected a stylish pair of sisters for his
overall Champion and Reserve Champion both consigned by H,M & D Hodgson
from the Wormanby herd and bred from an Excellent dam tracing back to the
Highoaks Ruby line.
The Champion was a second calve cow, Wormanby
Bottle Ruby VG85 sired by Whiteleys Bottle, (a Shottle son from Brigeen
Convincer Rhonda bred by Alan McGeogh in Stranraer) she had produced over 9,000
as a heifer and was sold giving 48kgs.
She joins the judge for 2,000gns.
The Reserve Champion was Wormanby Shottle Ruby sired by Picston Shottle,
she was a beautifully balanced young animal with an outstanding udder and sold
for the top price of the day to N&SJ Sanderson, Lanercost for 2,800gns.
The second of the leading prices was consigned by
M&G Struthers from the Balcurvie herd in Fife. This perfect uddered heifer was sired by
Mainstream Manifold from a high producing dam with almost 13,000kgs notched up
as a five year old. She sold for
2,450gns to the judge.
The next dairy sale at Borderway is on the 25th
June featuring the dispersal of the Heads Inn herd from Carnwath, Lanark.
