£3,000 Average at Cramar Dispersal
One of the best Holstein herds to be sold
for some considerable while attracted premium bids when Roger & Dianne
Steeples sold their prizewinning Cramar herd on farm at Kettering, Northants.
The impressive catalogue attracted more than 50 buyers from throughout the UK
from Scotland to Devon, Essex and Sussex, and a particularly strong contingent
from South and West Wales who were keen contenders for many of the choicest
lots.
However, the top animal stayed nearer to
home with Blaise Tomlinson, Nanpantan, Leicester giving 11,000gs for the superb
4th calver Cramar Affirmed Cutes. This lovely cow was considered by
Roger Steeples to be the best he had bred and was the fourth member of the
family in succession to be classified with 94 points or more. Her daughters
were also in great demand with her Butz-Butler Atwood Brady daughter being the
joint top priced calf at 5,500gs and her three ET daughters by Crackholm Fever
making 6,200, 5,900 and 5,000gs respectively.
The Misha family were in great demand with
Nev & Rhian Roberts of the Dulais herd, Drefach, Llanelli giving 10,000gs
for the 87 point 2 year old AS RD Misha Jordan, jointly owned with Sam Wake and
Andrew Holliday. Her maternal sister Cramar Shottle Misha (VG-87) who had won
many prizes as a calf made 9,000gs to Oliver Williams who is establishing a new
herd at Covington, Cambridgeshire. Her outstanding heifer calf by Toc-Farm
Goldsun made 5,500gs to Ffion Thomas, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire.
Elwyn and Cheryl Thomas of the Gatrog herd,
Llanelli acquired a number of the best cattle, giving 8,500gs for the freshly
calved heifer Cramar Sid Fran and 8,000gs for another cow of the same family
Cramar I Affirmed Faith (VG-89).
Once again the value
of breeding good pedigree cattle was amply demonstrated and with an excellent
sale arena on the farm and free refreshments being dispensed by the vendors,
both buyers and the many other spectators enjoyed a great occasion.
