Joint auctioneers Gwilym Richards & Co and J J Morris report a fantastic sale for the Bunby family of Boncath, North Pembrokeshire, with Holsteins selling to 3,000gns and Jerseys to 2,100gns, at Whitland Mart, Camarthenshire, where a huge crowd had assembled around the ring.

The headliner was the homebred 2nd calver Colman Icefyre Dora 2 VG85 which had recorded 11,125kgs as a heifer and was giving 53.3kgs daily after calving in February with her 2nd calf.  She was a daughter of Braedale Icefyre and out of a 13,070kgs dam.  The buyer at 3,000gns was W J Evans of Mathry, Pembrokeshire.

The same buyer paid 2,650gns for another homebred 2nd calver, the VG86 Colman Lucius Mildred.  This Savage Leign Lucius daughter had calved for the 2nd time on St David’s Day and was giving 46.4kgs daily with her heifer lactation having been 9,848kgs.

Jerseys sold to 2,100gns for the 3rd calver Berwick Iatola Shottle.  The buyers of this VG87 pointed SC Gold Dust Paramount Iatola daughter were Dafyydd and Helen Cox of Laugharne, Carmarthenshire.  She had calved again in January after giving 6,968kgs at 6.20% fat with her 2nd calf.

The Jersey Plowden Aces Eve VG88 which had calved for the 4th time on April Fool’s Day sold for 1,600gns to E A Davies of Cardigan.

Youngstock prices peaked at 2,050gns for a Holstein served heifer.  The November calving Colman Toyota Dora in-calf to Woodmarsh Metallic sold for 2,050gns to A D W Davies, Narberth, Pembrokeshire.  W O J Reed & Co of Spittal, Haverfordwest, paid 2,000gns for the September calving Colman Lofficiel Emily.

Holstein maiden heifers sold to 1,320gns and Jersey maiden heifers to 980gns.
