Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent attendance for their annual Golden Opportunity Sale on Tuesday 15th July at Sedgemoor Auction Centre. 
 
Collective milk entries were down in numbers but quality was in demand, selling to 2200gns for RJ Goss & Son’s calved heifer “Penrikka Sicy Marina 2nd”, at 2050gns was K Rickard and MA Webber’s “Withy Armstead Rachel”. Four calved heifers consigned by RJ Willcox Ltd from their “Sandpark” herd averaged an impressive £2074.00 for daughters of “Leif”, “Shottle” and “Justice”. A third calver from Slimbridge Holsteins being the Ex90 “Slimbridge Design Kiki 2nd” sold to 2000gns. 
 
GC & AM Sargent from Sunnymead Farm, Holnest, Dorset decision to disperse their NMR recorded noa pedigree herd at Sedgemoor Auction Centre was well rewarded with the day’s top price of 2250gns for the “Regancrest RBK Die-Hard” 2nd lactation cow that had calved in February. Third calvers by “Moet Nansen” sold for 2020gns and a second calver fresh in May sold to 2000gns x2. Their heifers calved in May sold to 2100gns for “Tamarlake Messi Ann 127th” by “Cornhill Messi”. 
 
The second annual consignment of cows not conforming to Westnedge & Knight’s strict calving pattern generated much interest with many purchasers returning having been well satisfied with last year’s cattle. The non-recorded cows that had all calved last autumn, with half of them back in calf for the spring and the other half empty sold to 1420gns to average almost £1000.  
 
A flying trade for incalf heifers from Messrs LWR & KA Hill that are ceasing milk production sold to 1710gns for “Sampfordel Reece Rijpma” by “Askew Reece” and out of a 12,000kgs “Chardit” bred dam due August to “Sandy-Valley Clue”. Two pedigree Jersey incalf heifers due September sold to 1230gns for R & J Mann.
 
Yearling heifers from R & J Bowles “Sidedowns” herd by “Cogent Twist” out of three generations of VG dams sold to 1080gns with Bulling heifers to 1020gns. British Friesian non-recorded heifer calves from David Honeybun and Cathryn Mills sold to 400gns for daughters of ”Rodbrook Drake” and “Oakalby Beauly”.
 
No less than 50 successful purchasers helped achieve the following excellent averages:
