Auctioneers Gwilym Richards & Co report a scorching hot trade at the dispersal sale of the Westonhall herd of Holstein Friesians for F I Bevan & Sons at Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

The packed ringside witnessed a top price of 1,950gns for a freshly calved 3rd calver being purchased by D P Rees of Crickhowell, Breconshire. The Kelstein Dynasty daughter was out of a 9,233kg Moet Lookout dam.

The next highest was 1,850gns for another Kelstein Dynasty daughter. She had recorded 6,910kg as a heifer and was due in early August to the Aberdeen Angus bull. The buyer was H E & J A Cowles & Son of Monmouth.

Served heifers sold to 1,620gns for a late August calving daughter of Bradash Tournament. Yearling heifers sold to 920gns on three occasions, they were all sired by Coop Oman Loydie. Heifer calves by the same bull sold to 420gns.

Welsh buyers dominated proceedings with 60% of the cattle finding new homes in the Principality.

(including 3 heifer calves at £423.50)

14 bulling heifers £907.50

88 lots £1,350.56
