<<< Back to Sale Reports

The Famous Wright Marshall Mid Month Sale of Dairy cattle including sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk cattle, took place on the “glorious twelfth” and what a truly “glorious” trade was experienced with buyers from as far away as Dumfriesshire all the way down to Essex. Both rings experienced a complete turn round from the lesser trade at the last sale in July with prices being as much as £500 per head up in some cases.

MILKING COWS AND HEIFERS

In the milking section there were no less than 67 head realising bids at £2000 or more which is over a third of the entry which is quite amazing, which I am sure other markets would be most envious. But it has to be said quality was very good with many outstanding individuals presented for sale by our very loyal vendors.

The top price was Burnbrae Gabor Ella from Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury for a daughter of Willow Marsh CC Gabor selling at £2650 to D and HE Colclough and Son of Hassall, Sandbach with the red and white Apina Curtis daughter, Burnbrae Curtis Amanda Red which sold for £2600 from the same vendors to the same purchasers. Two heifers made £2500 each. The first was the superbly bred Chaterley Lavanguard Polly ET from Stan Price of Mellor, Stockport; this was for a daughter of Comestar Lavanguard with five gnerations of VG/Ex dams from the Pledge family and was sold to David Alderson of Northallerton, North Yorkshire. At the same money was Winfarthing Jeeves Joan 83rd from the Taylors which went to a regular West Wales purchaser.

Selling at £2450 was the leading member of the pen from EV and B Boughey and son of Tarporley with a homebred heifer by Clayden Rudolph and a Terling bred heifer by Bosside Altaross also selling at this figure. Two heifers made £2400 each, one being a Sir Linerway Lightening daughter from Lower Denby Farms, Huddersfield and the other being Sandley Jazz 56th from George Sanderson of Preston, also for an Altaross daughter.

Cows were a much sharper trade, although not just as fast as the heifers. The top seller was a second calf daughter from GH Harrison and Sons of Grantham with an Alexander daughter which sold for £2150.00 and three other second calvers all from Ray Brown and Partners of Holmes Chapel which all sold for £2000 each.

IN-CALF HEIFERS:

In-calf Heifers were a great trade selling to a top of £1980 for Neatishall Brawler Bunty from JH and PE Nicholson Ltd of Norfolk who also sold daughters of Regancrest Baltimore and Regancrest Ilar at £1920 and £1980. A large consignment of in-calf heifers from JW Padfield Farms of Essex sold to £1750.
