HARRISON & HETHERINGTON LTD – CARLISLE

WEDNESDAY 1st OCTOBER 2014

PEDIGREE DAIRY SALE – HAWKBARROW DISPERSAL HERD SALE

On Wednesday 1st October the Hawbarrow Holstein herd owned by Mr AP Lowrey, Hawkbarrow Farm, Gosforth was dispersed in Borderway, Carlisle.

The ringside was packed with long time friends and neighbours of the Lowrey family and bidding was brisk with demand for fresh cows on the rise as milk producers look to increase their milk sales to compensate for the fall in milk price.  Allan Lowrey would like to thank everyone who helped and purchased animals at the sale and wishes them much success in the future.

Topping the trade was a stylish uddered heifer, Hawkbarrow Mammoth Nettle sired by Emmark Mammoth.  She had calved on 1st September and was producing over 30kgs.  She sold for 2,600gns to J Marrs & Son, Broomhills, Carlisle.

A special uddered young second calved cow sold for 2,300gns to E Pattinson, Walby Hall, Carlisle.  She was sired by Lutz-Brookview Burt and was giving 35kgs, her dam was a Very Good 86 cow with very high components.

Over twenty animals sold for £2000 or more, a wonderful testament to the quality and breeding of the Hawkbarrow herd.

The in-calf heifers also sold well topping at 2,350gns for a daughter of Regancrests Isley due in a month to Pellerat DVD.  She was purchased by CW Bushby, Watson Hill, Cumbria.

Averages: 61 Cow in milk or in-calf £1464.49, 50 heifers in milk or in-calf £1657.95, five in-calf heifers £1858.50, overall 116 head £1564.86. (Harrison and Hetherington)
