Cheshire Auctioneers, Wright Marshall of Beeston Castle Auction, launched their much talked about Month-End Sale in the late Spring of this year and now, just a few months on, that decision has been fully justified as this sale is now proving to be equally as successful as its sister event, The Famous Mid-Month sale.

Buyers came from all over, from Scotland to South Wales and those who were in attendance yesterday were amazed at the incredible high quality of the cattle at the Month End sale. It was probably one of the best we have ever had and was no doubt helped by the inclusion of a major consignment from the Aytonian herd of HS Petch & Sons Ltd., from Great Ayton, Nr. Middlesbrough who sold 44 fresh cows and heifers from their noted herd and they were an outstanding group.

The top seller was Aytonian Gremlin 24th, a daughter of Shottle who calved in mid August and was sold giving 42 kg. She has four generations of Straight Excellent cows behind her, all over 13000 kg and a 13000 kg VG sister. She sold for £3000 to join the Blacksnape Herd of Adam Mares at Darwen, Lancashire.

The Petch’s had four selling at £2450 each; two second calf cows by Mr.Sam and Xacobeo selling to John Bayley, Nuneaton and  BC & C Weaver of Adderley, Market Drayton and two heifers, both daughters of Shottle selling to John Bayley and JDR & MJ Warburton of Whitley, Warrington. A further ten heifers from the same home sold for prices between £2200 and £2400.

Other notable prices included £2600 for Aliann Alexander Rebecca 2nd with five VG/EX dams consigned by Enchanted Holsteins of Preston selling to M & GE Lloyd of Llandyssil, Montgomery and £2550 for Skyhigh Shottle Vaakje consigned by Clive and Anne Bason of Middlewich selling to Rob Ward of Whitchurch.

The Europeans had a good days trading for the milkers but the in-calf heifers were much harder to sell. There was still plenty of bidding even though they were at the end of the sale with many buyers keen to acquire these very good milky cattle. The heifers from breeders in the Osnabruck region of Germany were in particularly keen demand and sold up to £2300 for a daughter of Seaver giving 35 kg selling to Steve Armstrong of Bunbury, Tarporley for his Armsdale Herd. A further 9 heifers made from £2000 to £2150.

AVERAGES:13 Focus Milk Cows at £1941.54, 80 Focus Milk Heifers at £1893.50)
