The October Border & Lakeland Dairy sale took place at Borderway, on Wednesday 15^th in front of a large crowd of buyers who had a quality offering of freshly calved cows and heifers to select from.  Trade remained similar to the previous month with an overall average of £1823 however some heifers still look value for money selling for less than £1600.

The show was sponsored by Zoetis and Cogent and judged by Isaac Lancaster from the I-Cow herd in Gisburn.  His overall Champion went to Bowberhill Fever Lana consigned by WM Hutchinson & Son, Kirby Stephen, she was sired by Crackholm Fever and bred from eight Excellent or Very Good dams.  Commenting after the sale judge Isaac Lancaster said “...this is one of the best uddered heifers I have seen for some-time, I have no doubt she will develop into a fine show cow in the future”.   She sold for the top price on the day and now joins the herd of Mr Alan McCamley, Ochiltree, Ayrshire for 3,800gns. 

His Reserve Champion went to Stowbeck Sid Juliet 2 exhibited by Skirwith Hall Farms, Appleby.  She was sired by Pine-Tree Sid going back to an Excellent 95 Summershade Igniter third dam with over 70ton lifetime.  This stylish black heifer sold for 2,400gns to the Woodcatt herd of Duncan & Helen Horsley.  

Skirwith Hall sold a number of very milky super uddered heifers and cows topping the cow trade at 1,880gns for a Regancrest Baltimor daughter giving 43kgs and also sold a very milky Mario Xacobeo heifer giving 37kgs for 2,200gns going to J&E Irving, Stranraer.

Gavin Struthers sold twenty excellent uddered heifers all with super rumps and legs and feet with many giving 40kgs.  This quality consignment topped at 2,020gns for a Lutz-Brookview Burt daughter giving 38kgs and was purchased by J&E Irving, Stranraer.

Future dairy sales at Borderway include  the dispersal of the Straidnahanna herd owned by Wilson Stewart, Wiloxton Farm on 26^th November 2014.
