WINTERSELL GRAB THE GLORY AT ANNUAL BULL SALE
WEXHAM CUP WINNER AND TOP SELLER AT 5200 GNS
The Western
Holstein Club’s 63rd Annual Wexham Cup Show and Sale of pedigree
Holstein bulls attracted an entry of 52 head. The sale was judged by Paul
Westaway of Sterling Sires Ltd. The numbers were down but overall the quality
was extremely good. The Wexham Cup is awarded to the bull that gains the most
points not only on its own inspection but also on the production and type
traits of its pedigree. This year it was won by Wintersell Millicio ET from
John Downing of Edenbridge, Kent; Millicio is a son of Bertaiola Mincio and out
Wintersell Mila 10th (LP50) (Ex93-3E)(Ex965-MS) who has already bred
8 EX/VG daughters, and the bull Wintersell Milo at Cogent and is the only cow
from the UK out of 25 nominations for Holstein International’s Global Cow of
the Year 2014.
Reserve
Champion for the Wexham Cup and overall Champion on Inspection was Woodmarsh
Zumero ET from M & JC Gould Ltd of Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury. Zumero is a son of the much talked about
Amighetti Numero Uno and out of Woodmarsh Goldwyn Zandra (LP50) (Ex91 & SP) 6* who is the 6th
generation of bulls classified in the top two grades. Reserve Champion on
Inspection was Bestfed Desteny, a son of Scientific Destry from Ex94-3E Goldwyn
daughter of the Countess family consigned by Paul Findley and Steve Bell of
Wrexham and Penrith respectively.
The top bid
came from Steve Cox of the Cox Farming Company of Marston, Stafford when he
purchased the Wexham Cup winner, Wintersell Millicio for 5200 gns for his
Steveacre Herd. The next top bid was 4000 gns paid for Millicio’s ET brother
Wintersell Magnifico when George Sanderson and Family acquired this bull for
their Sandley Herd at Blackleach, Preston.
Next at 3100
gns was Lilleshall Superstition ET from Philip Gilman of Lilleshall, Newport
with his son of Charlesdale Superstition bred from 5 generations of high
scoring members of the Ashlyn family. This bull with a complete outcross
pedigree was the choice of L Hadfield & Sons of Buxton.

Zumero from the Gould’s which sold to Derek Pyle of Clyst Honiton, Exeter,
Devon. Another Woodmarsh bull, Leaton, sired by Jeeves and from the renowned
