ORGANIC DAIRY CATTLE SELL TO 2,400GNS

Auctioneers Gwilym Richards & Co report a very good trade for Organic dairy cattle when David and Jane Gibbs sold their pedigree Slopers herd of Friesian Holsteins at Hartpury, Gloucester.

The top price was 2,400gns with six cattle selling at over £2,000.

The sale topper was a 4th calver sired by Dovea Bass.  The May calver had recorded 9,001kgs in her 3rd lactation and was due in June next year to Winnoch Umpire.  The buyers were R J House & Son of Wincanton, Somerset.

The top call for calved heifers was 2,150gns for a Deangate Quentin daughter that had calved in October.  The buyers were R P Sainsbury & Sons of Badminton, South Gloucestershire, who also bought another October calved heifer by the same sire for 1,950gns.

Park Farm of Kelston, Bath, purchased a quality head of 14 cattle including two October 2nd calvers by Lakemead Rancher for 2,150gns and 2,000gns, and a fresh 3rd calver by Tittenser Hylke at 2,100gns.

Youngstock sold to 920gns for a Deangate Quentin sired bulling heifer being purchased by A E Allen & Son of Berkeley, Gloucestershire.  Heifer calves sold to 480gns, and the Hereford stock bulls sold at 1,100gns and 1,500gns with both destined for a West Wales farm.

Considering the current volatility in the milk sector, the auctioneers were very pleased with the successful outcome of this sale with organic and conventional producers from 12 English and Welsh counties in attendance, with many returning home empty handed.
