Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Annual Top 10% Sale of 300 head at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 11th August reflected the current issues in the dairy industry with a steadier milk trade. However even in these difficult times breeding was in demand, demonstrated by the first consignment of the “Stowey” youngstock portion from MA Jeanes (Farms) Ltd, which topped the day at 4300gns for the “Stowey Aikman Jill ET” due September with a PLI of £388 and GTPI of 2029 from the renowned “Jessica” family. She joins the “Lynchmead” herd as does the exceptionally well-bred “Stowey Motion Ghost” PD+ 7 months at 2900gns. “Stowey Lavaman Pixie” due in November sold for 2350gns. Calved heifers from the same herd sold to 2100gns for “Stowey Numero Uno Zjay Jay”. Her two week old heifer calf by “Stowey Amble” sold for 440gns.

In the collective section the freshly calved show heifer “Wintersell Verna 191st” by “Bossman” sold to 2500gns for DW & CE Jones. Others in this section sold for 1850gns for Dimond Farming Ltd’s “Dorset Valiant Fairmaid” and 1720gns for A & JE Fewing’s “Keevil Fever Primrose”. Cows from RE & HE Bugler & Partners sold to 1700gns for “Bettiscombe Milkstar Miss America” as did “Mendip NY Blossom” from TR Quick.

Bulls from DJ & VM Norman sold to 1500gns for “Ciderhouse Sensation ET” by “Rosylane-LLC Altabarney” and from the “Scant” family.

In the youngstock section commercial yearling heifers by “Eastview Ernie” from Buddleford Partnership sold to 800gns and Pedigree March born heifer calves from N, R & D Norris sold to 400gns for “Sandyhill Dan Wander 46th” and “Sandyhill Gaiety 193rd”.

The day included the dispersal for RJ & EJ Collier who sold second calvers to 1620gns for the homebred “Cobhay Hayden Joscoral” that had calved in June and heifers to 1520gns for “Cobhay McCormick Lavina”.
