“Probably the best show of calved heifers for some time with a trade to match” was how auctioneer Gwilym Richards summed up the October monthly sale of dairy cattle at Ross-on-Wye Market.

The top price was 1,950gns (£2,047.50) for a calved heifer from Reading University with others to 1,850gns twice, 1,820gns and 1,800gns, with their consignment of 12 heifers averaging £1,743.

Brownswood Holsteins of Worcester sold to 1,800gns ad 1,750gns.

A total of 11 calved heifers made 1,600gns or more.

Cows sold to 1,450gns for a 2nd calver from I J & R J Evans & Son, Ross-on-Wye.

In-calf heifers from T E Harcombe & Son, Worcester, sold to 1,010gns.
