21-10-2015 - Sky high dairy trade at SAC with Stowey selling to 4000gns

A lack of dispersal sales across the South West fuelled the trade at Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s October Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre where 400 head sold to no less than 72 different purchasers.

The day started with the collective fresh milk which topped at 3200gns for Terry Cox’s Red and White show winner “Holmead Frontrunner Roxy Red ET” that had calved to her first in September and was classified VG86. She joins the Hawken family from Cornwall. Others over 2000gns in the collective section came from RD Horton & Son, DC Dennis & Son and DW & CE Jones.

The 8 bulls forward on the day all sold, to a top of 1450gns for RG & SR Farms “Hollysprings Revolution Red” from 7 generations of Ex and VG dams by “Jerudo”.

A consignment of Jerseys from the “Hareplain” herd from Kent met an exceptional demand selling to 1500gns for the September calved heifer “Governors Flora” with the “Governors Shingle” at 1250gns.

“Stowey”
MA Jeanes (Farms) Ltd second sale to disperse the youngstock from their much admired “Stowey” herd produced the days highlight with the 14 month old “Stowey Balisto Sky” selling for 4000gns to the “Perrins” herd in Cornwall. She has a brother in Cogent and is from “UFM Dubs Eroy” Family. Joining her in Cornwall is the incalf heifer “Stowey Numero Uno Rhapsody” from a potential 12 generations excellent dams, she sold for 2400gns. Other highlights included the bulling heifer “Numero Uno Raven” at 2250gns and the incalf heifer “Aikman Rae Polled” at 1900gns.

“Culverhayes”
Tim and Mandy Reed’s retirement sale generated an excellent trade for their milking cows to top at 2300gns for the VG85 second calver “Dictator Molly” and VG86 second calver “Jordan Odyssey”. No less than 8 cows broke the £2000 barrier. Heifer calves at foot also met a strong trade to top at 740gns for the 4 week old “Bookmark Jill” out of the seventh lactation “Lucas Jill 2nd Ex93-2E” that sold for 2000gns. At 500gns was the “Goodwhone Odyssey” calf that has a PLI of £360. Yearling heifers from Culverhayes sold to 1150gns for “Dolmio Odyssey” part of the renowned “Odyssey” family.

Bridgwater College
A youngstock consignment from Bridgwater College’s “Somerset” herd created considerable interest and sold to 1250gns for the “Saratoga Romkje” due next spring. With yearling heifers from the much admired “Inkpot” family reaching 800gns for daughters of “Synergy Altapilsner”.
 

FG Burrough & Son’s Dispersal

The sale included the dispersal of the crossbred spring calving dairy cows on behalf of the Burrough family, which sold to 1200gns for the Friesian second calver due to Jersey in February. Jersey X incalf heifers due in the spring to Jersey sold to 750gns twice, with February born Jersey X calves selling to 280gns.
