Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a total clearance of the 263 head on offer for their November Collective Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre. Despite the ongoing dairy situation a packed ringside competed for the lots on offer.
The day topped at 1900gns twice for two ‘Dorset’ heifers from Ian Dimond’s prizewinning herd both by the ‘Glauco’ sire and calved in October they were from the ‘Caroline’ and ‘Lapwing’ families. The show heifer from AJ Limond ‘Linlake Destry Lavender’ sold for 1850gns. Second lactation cows from ‘Bettiscombe’ sold to 1650gns for the ‘Loaded Jenny’. First time consignors from Glamorgan, Wales, R & M Loughers saw their excellent entry top at 1600gns for their second calver ‘Tanglwyst Zebra Morfydd’ others to 1550gns.
An exceptional bull trade topped at 2100gns for Rickard & Webbers ‘Starlet Drake’ from the renowned Dellia family. A & JE Fewings sold two bulls both by ‘Atwood’ out of the ‘Ghost’ family for 1850 and 1750gns.
Our two dispersal sales attracted a lot of interest. The first consignment to disperse RG & JM Towers crossbred herd from Preston, Lancashire was well received selling to 1600gns for a Swedish Red Cross second calver with others to 1550gn. PJ & R Saunders decision to cease milking brought their first consignment of 41 cows to the market selling to 1400gns for a second calver from their non-recorded commercial herd.
Foremore Limited’s decision to reduce their youngstock numbers saw incalf heifers to 1060gns, bulling heifers to 810gns x 2, yearling heifers at 680gns and heifer calves to 260gns.
