Tuesday 24th November was a very sad day for the Besent family who were forced to sell their Pedigree Herd, which was moved to Sedgemoor Auction Centre for convenience of sale and the autumn calving herd generated tremendous demand for heavy milking cows. It was very noticeable that older cows were selling well with a September calved fourth lactation cows topping the sale at 1800gns for “Melcombe Dragon Blackcap” with no less than 4 other second and third lactation cows matching this figure.
 
Calved heifers by “Bassingthorpe Drayman” sold to 1650gns for “Melcombe Drayman Finch” out of an 11,000 kgs dam.
 
‘A’ Lot heifer calves by Relough Dolmio” sold to 360gns for “Melcombe Dolmio Kingfisher”.
 
The 2014 autumn born heifers sold to 830gns twice for the red and white heifers “Melcombe Jerudo Jackdaw Red” and “Melcombe Jerudo Wagtail Red”.
 
The Pedigree Hereford bull “Kiddles 1 Showboy” born in 2013 sold for 2300gns. 
 
A well-attended day produced 40 successful purchasers and the following averages: 
 
145 Dairy Cows (Inc. A Lots) £1352.00
  44 Yearling Heifers £698.00
  44 Heifer Calves £284.00
   3 Bulls £1628.00
