Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an excellent entry of 238 Dairy Cattle for their Annual Christmas Cracker Show and Sale at Sedgemoor Auction Centre on Tuesday 8th December 2015. Judge, Elwyn Thomas from the renowned “Gatrog” herd chose “Molewood Lovejoy Hilda VG86” from Edwin Snow’s dispersal as his reserve champion of the day and she topped the sale at 2050gns.
The day’s champion was “Bettiscombe Seagual Sabrina GP84” the fresh second calver from RE & HE Bugler & Partners who sold for 1950gns. Calved cows were very much in demand on the day compared to the heifers.
The second prize commercial calved heifer consigned by HR Lewis from Carmarthen sold for 1820gns. The first prize heifer was from “Molewood” being “RA Hilda” that had calved in September and she made 1700gns.
In the collective section maiden heifers sold to 2000gns for Shanael Holsteins & C & J Tallis’s February 2015 born “Shanael Gras Asset ET” from the “Canyon-Breeze Allen” family.
Incalf heifers topped at 1180gns for FG Summerhayes & Son’s homebred “Otter Xacobeo Flora” due in January. Bulls from DJ & VM Norman sold to 1420gns for the September 2014 born “Ciderhouse Tim ET” by “Coyne-Farms Jacey”.
Heifer calves from the same herd sold to 300gns for the 5 week old “Ciderhouse Lexon Sally” as did “Molewood Seagual Beauty” from Edwin Snow.
As well as Mr Edwin Snow’s dispersal Brian Elworthy sold his non recorded herd of Jerseys, British Friesians and Ayrshires to top at 1200gns for the November calved 2009 born British Friesian Cow.
A difficult youngstock trade still saw yearlings at 980gns for MA Jeanes (Farms) Ltd continued youngstock dispersal for “Stowey Brooklyn Roxy” from 9 generations of VG or Excellent by the homebred Ex90 bull “Stowey Brooklyn”.
An excellent crowd enjoyed the festive refreshments and produced no less than 57 successful purchasers from Cornwall to Ceredigion and the following averages:
