<<< Back to Sale Reports

Wednesday 30th March 2016 The dispersal of the Quothquan Holstein herd owned by John Lyon from Quothquan Mill, Biggar, Lanarkshire took place at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 30th March 2016. The quality of the cows on offer were a total credit to John and his family who have been milking cows at Quothquan Mill for many years. Most of the older cows were Excellent or Very Good classified cows that in more affluent times would have realised much higher values. Unfortunately the sale followed another round of milk price cuts from most of the major processors dampening buyer’s enthusiasm. Topping the trade was Quothquan Sharpe Sorrel selling for 1,550gns to IT & EM Cariyle, Bleaberry Rigg, Longtown. She was the last milking heifer to sell and was only a week fresh giving well over 30kgs. Top price cow was paid by P Mason, The Haven, Shrewsbury for Quothquan Ricochet Catmint at 1,520gns. She was sired by Ricochet and bred from a VG86 Lucente dam and was a week fresh giving over 50kgs.
