A very level trade was achieved at the dispersal sale of the Blackhouse herd of Holstein Friesians for Kevin and Sally Whistance at Much Dewchurch, Hereford, with 58 successful buyers from 19 counties including Ireland in attendance. The top price was 1,650gns for a first calved daughter of Woodmarsh Asterix purchased by G J Robertson of Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire. A calved heifer sired by the stock bull Denmire Pippin sold for 1,600gns to D W Bevan & Son of St Weonards, Herefordshire. Another calved heifer this time by another of the stock bulls Denmire Pembroke sold to a Staffordshire buyer for 1,580gns who also paid the same money for the top priced cow a 2nd calver by Cogent Azure. The youngstock trade was more difficult, as has been the case at all sales this year, with served heifers selling to 1,100gns and maiden heifers to 520gns. The dairy equipment sold very well with the 20,000 litre milk silo making £18,500. Averages: Cows and calved heifers £1,221; Served heifers £671; Maiden heifers £443; Heifer calves £243; Bulls £998.
