18-05-2016 - Westel Dispersal tops at 3,000gns at SAC May Collective

The annual May Collective Dairy Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, junction 24 of the M5 on Tuesday 17th May generated the year’s top price through the dairy ring of 3000gns for Westel Bossman Bet 21 VG86-2yr. From four straight EX dams who was sold as part of Robin and Michelle Harding’s dispersal, which also included at 2,700gns Westel Shottle Bet 20 VG86-2yr.
 
The collective section started the day, with the calved heifer Sahara McCutchen Bashful ET from the Barbie family selling for 2550gns for Church Farm. Second calvers from this section sold to 1,480gns for Kingspool Holsteins’ Wyman Betty, as did calved heifers from R J Goss & Son and R J Willcox Ltd.’s Sandpark herd. A consignment of 22 cows and heifers from K W & J M Hulbert Ltd.’s Janke herd averaged £1,181 and 20 fresh and off lying cows from W Green & Sons Roundhillsfarm herd averaged £1,018. 
 
The second dispersal of the day was for T O & B J Daymond, topping at 2,000gns for Barday Agnes 10 VG86; an April third calver out of the EX92-2E dam by Braedale Goldwyn. 
 
The strongest youngstock trade seen for some time saw in-calf heifers selling to 1,220gns for Westel McCormick Echo 6 due September to Picston Shottle. A consignment of British Friesian in-calf heifers for P J & R Saunders due June sold to 1,000gns to average £919.
 
15 months old heifers from Westel sold to 1,000gns for the Shottle Bet 24 for W T Harding & Son and eight month-old heifers from T O & B J Daymond sold for 800gns for Barday Emma 14.
 
The best heifer calve trade of the year was selling to 850gns for 15 day old Sahara Bradnick Bashful from the renowned Barbie family by Church Farm.
 
Holstein bulls sold to 1,500gns for Panda Holstein’s Panda Man ET from the Wesswood Missy family that has produced numerous AI bulls.
 
No less than 60 successful purchasers on the day, which included the largest Welsh contingent seen for many months, produced the following encouraging averages:
