Auctioneers: Wright Marshall
Averages: 19 cows £1,251.05; 55 milking heifers £1,218.08; 11 in-calf heifers £1,018.18.

The Wright Marshall Month End Dairy Sale attracted an entry of just under 100 calved cows and heifers and a few in-calf heifers for its May sale and once again the trade was even sharper following the recent trend of the last few weeks and certainly the middle and lower end cattle were the dearest they have been this spring not that there were too many of that category forward. A good crowd of buyers from the East Midlands to Mid Wales were in attendance with plenty of competitive bidding resulting in a total 100% clearance.

The top price on the day was £1,700 for the second calf Leesemanor Jayz Chancery VG86 from L H Lomas & Son of Byley, Middlewich. She was sold giving 45kg and joins two of her herd mates by RSVP and Jenny-Lou Marshall from the same Chancery family who were both third calvers and sold giving 51kg and 49kg with all three going to the same North Wales farm. Another second calf cow, Bure Trembull Blossom 101 consigned by Billockby Farms Ltd., of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk sold for £1,500 to J J & A S Nicholas of Tarporley. There were another half dozen good young cows selling from £1,300 to £1,420.

Heifers were also a much sharper trade with the top being £1,680 for the best from a lovely run of heifers from Gavin Struthers of Windybank, Fife, Scotland. This was for Balcurvie Meteor Norah, a daughter of Sully Altameteor who was sold giving 29kg to Wilmot Blockley of Tarvin. Two others from the same home by Cookiecutter Hefty and Coppside Talent Paul sold for £1,650 each going to H & M Jones, St. Asaph and T H Peacock & Son, Tarporley, respectively. Another three heifers sold at £1,500 each for animals from Gavin Struthers, Billockby Farms Ltd and R B & M J Webster, Sheffield.

The sale concluded with a nice run of summer and autumn calving heifers which sold to £1,280 for an end of August calving daughter of Relough Dolmio from A G Williams, Penrith and £1,250 for a Duce Yen daughter from R R Corfield, Caersws.
