AUCTIONEERS: Wright Marshall

The June Mid Month Dairy Sale including special sections for the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Pedigree cattle attracted an entry of 380 Head of which 360 were forward on the day and all 360 head were sold to new homes.

A good crowd of buyers were present from all over but mainly sold to our good commercial base in Cheshire and its surrounding counties.

MILKERS
A really good entry of 202 milkers were presented for sale in the top ring and on the whole met with a much faster trade particularly for all the cows and the best heifers. Quality was good in the cows but unusually for Beeston there was a distinct lack of quality heifers forward and too many which were frail and lacking condition. So far as regards to trade, cows were a lot dearer and so were the best heifers but the more second quality heifers were hardly any different than the May sale but it has to be said they were no less a price.

Top price heifer was £1,780 for the very last one through the ring; this was for Winfarthing Ponder Doris 267 consigned by Andrew Shakeshaft of Ellesmere for his daughter of Coldsprings Ponder sold giving 34.6 kg to David Colclough of Hassall, Sandbach. Next at £1,700 was a McCormick daughter from Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury also purchased by David Colclough who also purchased a Mascol Mars heifer from the Taylors at £1,680. The Taylors also sold two more heifers by Galastar Bluesky and Warnelview regent at £1,650 each. A total of twenty two Heifers realised over £1,500!

Cows were the trade of the day and topped at £1,720 for a superb third calver from O C Whittaker & Sons Ltd., of Tabley, Knutsford sold giving 39 kg to J J & AS Nicholas of Rushton, Tarporley. The Whittakers had another great second calver that sold at £1,680 to David Colclough. Adam Johnson of Wrenbury is having a reduction of his herd and consigned 39 cows and calved heifers to the sale nearly all of which had calved since early April; they really were a great lot of milky durable cows and sold really well and topped at £1,700 for a month calved daughter of Bassingthorpe Drayman with several others from £1,400 upwards.

IN-CALF HEIFERS
Only a small entry this month of a dozen or so which topped at £1,100 for a July calver from Peter and Audrey Howard of Darnhall.

MAIDEN HEIFERS
A great entry of 133 maiden heifers met with a much faster trade than of late and the entry was dominated by the entire unselected groups of bullers and yearlings from Adam Johnson, Wrenbury. The leading bid was £710 for a daughter of Mascol Mars with two yearlings by Laurelhill Classic making £700 each.
