Auctioneers: Gwilym Richards & Co with R G & R B Williams
Averages: 60 cows £897

The dairy trade has definitely improved on the back of small uplifts in the milk price with the feeling that the bottom of the trough has been reached.

It was the best attended Ross sale since January with several new buyers present from Shropshire, Mid Wales and the English midlands.

Top price was 1,400gns for a heifer due with her second calf in a month’s time. She formed part of the dispersal of the loose-housed dairy herd for Howard Woolliams of Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. Cows from this herd sold to 1,350gns (second calver) and 1,300gns (fourth calver).  The 60 cows averaged £897.

The sale also included calved heifers from D Davis, Cheltenham, that sold to 1,400gns with his best three averaging £1,428.

The consignment of in-calf heifers from the Jenner family at Cirencester peaked at 1,100gns with the 28 levelling at £873.
