Auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt report the fastest trade of the year for 251 head at their Annual Golden Opportunity Sale held at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, M5 J24 where 44 successful purchasers made the most of the chance to purchase fresh milk in abundance. June second calvers giving 65kg sold for 1,700gns.
 
The sale started with the collective fresh milk which topped at 1,650gns twice for two calved heifers from D C Dennis & Son Ltd’s Dinnaton herd for members of the Graceful and Duchess families. 
 
The red and white calved heifer Designer Debonair Pollula Red from Designer Holsteins sold for 1,620gns. A day in which heifers were in stronger demand than the freshly calved cows saw others from Salterton and Moorshard sell to 1,520gns. 
 
First time consigners J & J Bown from Basingstoke sold in-calf heifers from their Steventon herd to a top of 1,520gns for a Zoro Teacup due in September to BWN Danno Chief. The 12 heifers due August to November averaged £1,309. 19 autumn calving heifers from Cole Farming Ltd averaged £1,114.
 
July and August 2015 born heifers sold to 520gns for GP & GC Barnacle with “Waterhayne Ditto Mandy” and “Waterhayne Ladd Charity”. April born heifer calves from the same herd sold to 400gns for “Waterhayne Dilly Clover”.
Holstein bulls sold to 1,400gns for Longmoor Demanding ET by Larcrest Commander for Longmoor Farm Ltd. 
 
Buyers were from Cornwall to Carmarthen.
