The July Month End Dairy Cattle Sale incorporating the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Sale of Pedigree Holsteins attracted a really good entry of 162 Milking cattle of which 152 were forward on the day and a 100% clearance effected in front of a ring packed with buyers and very few onlookers.

As usual the sale opened with the cows and these were a really good trade throughout. This section of the sale included a major unselected consignment of cows all calved from early May onwards from J R & J R Davenport & Sons of Broomhall, Nantwich who are changing the calving profile of their herd to autumn bock calving. They sold up to £1,750 for a second calf daughter of Jeeves who had calved eight weeks and was giving 40 kg. She sold to E D Morris of Oswestry with eight others from the same home making from £1,500 to £1,600. Pedigree cows sold to £1,600 twice both for second calvers from the Uphall Herd of J D Alston Estates of Diss, Norfolk for daughters Zelgadis and Wyman selling to J J & A S Nicholas, Tarporley and to P R & E A Stone of Stone, Staffordshire respectively.

Heifer trade was not quite as sharp as it was a couple of weeks ago, but it has to be said a much higher than usual proportion had been calved a long time going back as far as April which is very unusual for this sale. However several notable prices were realised with a top of £1,800 for a lovely daughter of Savard from Jack and Barclay Taylor which was sold giving 33 kg to a local milk producer. Next at £1,790 was Denmire Royster daughter from W W & D Boow of Millom, Cumbria which sold to Wilmot Blockley of Tarvin. Joylan Farms of St. Michaels sold a 34 kg daughter of Joylan Specialist at £1,750 and a Mincio daughter giving 37 kg at £1,700. John Lomas of Gawsworth had two lovely heifers by McCormick and Jayz that both made £1,720 each and Robert Horton of Little Leigh sold a Shottle daughter for £1,740.
