Averages: 61 cows £1,290; 1 bull £1,449; 22 in-calf heifers £1,416.54; 27 bulling heifers £1,011.50; 38 yearling heifers £687; 11 heifer calves £440

Tuesday 18th August brought to a conclusion 40 years of dairy breeding with the dispersal of the Dowervale herd on behalf of the Cuff Family.

The 2,000gns barrier was reached twice by two members of the family most associated with Dowervale being the Whitetime’s. Both July second calvers Million Whitetime 412 out of 2 EX dams travelled to Wales and Lauthority Whitetime 428 joined the Volwes family of Axminster, her daughter Mincio Whitetime 513 sold for 450gns at three weeks of age. It was testament to the breeding at Dowervale  that the herd sold comprised one third of cows in their fifth to 10th lactation.

The in-calf heifers met an electric trade topping at 1650gns twice for Mincio Clementine 234th at Mincio Whitetime 459 travelling to Wales and Weston-Super-Mare with many more at 1,600gns.

Bulling heifers for the first time this year averaged in excess of £1,000 with Shottle Whitetime 479 from nine generations of VG and EX selling for 1,420gns and Shottle Whitetime 477 selling to 1,260gns.

Yearling heifers by Pine-Tree Sid from nine generations of VG and EX dams from the Whitetime family sold to 750gns. Three week old heifer calves by Uno and from the Whitetime family sold for 620gns.

The bull Dowervale Minute sold for 1,380gns and travelled to Carmarthen.

Excellent support from Dorset and across the West and Wales produced well deserved averages.
