Amy Family Top At Newpark Dispersal

The Newpark Holstein dispersal sale held at Borderway, Carlisle on Wednesday 24th August was a credit to the Grindley family and to their herdsman Tom Brown who had developed a wonderful herd of high yielding cows since they restocked following FMD.  This sale was not part of their exit strategy but merely a change in how milk will be produced at Parkhouse Farm. Mark & Jenny will be replacing this Holstein herd with cows more adapted to producing milk from a grass based system.

Trade topped at 2,000gns for a superb daughter of Bassingthorpe Bossman, Newpark Bossman Amy was purchased by Tom Smith Bottoms Farm, Kilmarnock.  This perfectly uddered second calve cow was fresh since May and recently classified VG86 and was giving 47kgs with an impressive heifer lactation of over 10,000kgs.  Her dam was the fifth lot in the sale; Newpark Shott Amy sired by Picston Shottle and classified EX92.  She was freshly calved in her fifth lactation and sold for 1,400gns also going to Mr Smith.

Golden-Oaks ST Alexander left a positive stamp in the Newpark herd and it was one of his silky hided daughters that made it second on the price list.  Newpark Alex Prelude had recently scored VG87 in her third lactation and was due again with her fourth in December.  She was bred from a VG86 Comestar Outside and traced back to an EX94 Dannix from France.  She sold for 1,650gns to J Harrison Wickerfield, Penrith.

A freshly calved second calve cow sold for 1,600gns to JD Hetherington & Sons Blue Dial Farm, Maryport.  Newpark Seagual Gail was a daughter of Gen-I-Beq Seagual and bred from a VG86 Glen-View Captain with over 10000kgs as a two year old.

It was great to have so many neighbours and friends support the sale.  The Bell family from Torpenhow Hall purchased Newpark Gerard Nessie for 1,550gns.  Nessie was a beautiful balanced heifer sired by Schillvew Oman Gerard and bred from an Excellent 90 dam.

Topping the in-calf trade was Newpark Mincio Naomi sired by Bertaiola Mincio and bred form an Excellent dam.  She sold for 1,520gns to J. Rae Boghead Farm, Dumfries.

Probably the best trade of the day was for the young calves selling directly after their dams with 90 lots averaging £446 and topping at 650gns for a daughter of Seagull-Bay Silver and bred from an Excellent dam.  This strong powerful calf was purchased by T. Scott Daltonhook, Lockerbie.
